Step by Step Guide on How to replace the battery in your AirTag

John Maered |

Got a notification that your AirTags' battery needs replacement? Panic not, we break down step by step on how you can replace your AirTag battery. It's quick and easy.

YOU WILL NEED:

1) Your AirTag obviously

2) CR2032 battery. Easy to find on Amazon, Walmart, Target, etc. Most places carry this battery.

To swap out the battery in your AirTag, follow these steps:

  1. Press down on the polished stainless steel battery cover and turn it counterclockwise until it stops rotating.
  2. Remove the cover along with the battery.
  3. Insert a fresh CR2032 lithium 3V coin battery (readily available at most electronic and drug stores) with the positive side facing upward. You'll hear a confirmation sound once the battery is properly connected.
  4. Be sure to store batteries safely away from children. For added safety against accidental ingestion, opt for a CR2032 battery coated with a bitterant, such as the Duracell 2032 Lithium Coin Battery with Bitter Coating. Look for packaging labeled "Compatible with Apple AirTag." Note that some CR2032 batteries with bitterant coatings may not be compatible with AirTag or other battery-operated devices.
  5. Replace the cover, ensuring that the three tabs on the cover align with the three slots on the AirTag.
  6. Turn the cover clockwise until it securely locks in place.
